Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??!

I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me.

I mindlessly give 15 to 20% however if the service is extra good you can give up to 30% to even 40% depending how generous you feel.  Coming from someone who works in the food service industry
