listening to peter levels talk about how stripe made accepting payments super easy which changed everything makes me sad for the state of ecommerce in africa

i've been building stuff for a long time but never bothered charging because it's really hard to accept international payments in south africa (or any african country for that matter) because stripe is not available here 

local options make it very difficult to charge in common international currencies like USD/EUR and users churn because they don't recognize/trust the payment provider

crypto fixes this, but only if your target demographic is crypto native for now

african countries should be begging stripe to add support for their countries

this is also true for chile

the last time i tried to implement stripe payment on a system i was building the only way to do it was by establishing that Delaware company using stripe atlas

we need global payment rails that level up the playing field, everywhere. that’s going to make humanity flourish, and catalyze innovation at a global scale
