Carroll Hall Shelby is an American racing driver and car designer. He is best known as the creator of special versions of the Ford Mustang — GT350 and GT500. Since 1962, Shelby American Inc., a company founded by him, has been engaged in tuning and preparing special versions of road and sports cars, primarily the Ford brand. He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1954-1960), Targa Florio (1955), and the Formula 1 World Championship (1958-1959). Winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. After retiring from racing in October 1959 for health reasons, he opened a driving school and Shelby-American Company.
