academic policy paper on this for those interested: https://fireecology.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s42408-024-00301-y also learned there’s an large amount of startups globally using AI + sensors or satellites (or both) for fire detection and a small but growing number using robots / drones for firefighting.

learning as much as i can about wildfires. prescribed burns are a prevention tactic to reduce the buildup of vegetation that could serve as fire fuel. it takes an avg of 4.7 yrs for a prescribed burn to get through environmental reviews. 80M acres need urgent treatment — that means now, not in 5 years. maddening!

https://x.com/videolan/status/1877072497146781946 I think this is as big as https://arxiv.org/html/2408.14837v1 one could take the same videos w/ dialogue and retrain diffusion models, just like I bet visualizing the keystrokes in that diffusion model might lead to novel agency. @askgina.eth explain how this conjecture is uninformed and wrong.

- I spilled my hojicha latte all over my white tablecloth and ruined a bunch of inventory. Soured my mood but I ended up giving the tablecloth to my other vendor neighbour, a super talented designer who thrifts materials and upcycles it into clothing. I saw him sell a jacket for $500 the first day and then the handbag for $300 the next day to the same customer. Really amazed me at the type of relationship he had w his customers - I sense I was tough on my employee because I was stressed. I wasn’t rude with her, but I did give a lot of feedback. Halfway through we broke even and by the end of the night we reached our sales goal. I doubled down on the encouragements after I recognized I was stressed. - Learning that there will always be one customer who hates my product. Some customers make these gross faces after smelling my candles 😩

Recap of this past market: - I was really in my head. I’m not usually in my head but today was objectively hard. Had difficult customers. - Someone asked me why I didn’t do the scents side by side instead of stacked ontop inside my jar. I had to turn it sideways and explain to them that it was impossible to pour a candle like that, also if both scents were side by side they’d still only get 1? - One of the other vendors at the market told me she only made $30 after 6 hours of work 😭 I felt so bad for her. And you know what she used her $30 on? A /humankind candle! That was so sweet of her. Usually I give vendors 10% off but she was so lovely I gave her 15% off. - I lent my vendor neighbour change. At first I was a bit hesitant because I didn’t know him, but he surprised me with this wonderful drawing of me and my employee.

just speculation, but I'm guessing that biggest capital allocators want a consolidated exposure to economy of atoms w/o headache of securing commodities directly. still an open question how SpaceX goes public, but that will lead to the first paper trillionaire. imagine the alternative, where the first paper trillionaire is due to "o3" or some other securitized displacement of knowledge work. or worse, a plutocrat w/ monopolized commodity (e.g. violence)
