I know ghiblifying everything is fun, but it really showcases how if we don’t have effective IP protection for individuals by default we’ve ceded all value from creative generation to pre-existing capital owners with distribution + legal Also we basically turn all artists into interns working “for exposure”

it is likely true that both IP and copyright are already out the window

question is: do creators even still care, do any of us have the power to fight it or change it, and what comes next? i've seen artists outraged and i imagine there's been an uptick in the last couple days, but likely leads to a dead end at the moment

I think creators do care especially those with less means to sustain themselves when they can’t generate $$$ bc they’re structurally forced to give away their stuff for free (existing platforms) I think small creators can’t do anything about it, big ones could advocate effectively if they weren’t afraid of making waves, but ultimately it comes down to alternative distribution platforms that let creators better capture value and en masse them choosing to live there. It’s just extremely hard to compete with “free” Agree on dead end for now, but imo it’s important to keep bringing it up— even if status quo beneficiaries make the money why should they also get to feel good about themselves?
