The Five Best Euros Kits

Let's take a look at the history of the Euros through five epic Euros kits (jerseys for "Les Americains")

1: Holland, 1988

NYTimes calls it the best kit of all time, and being Dutch myself, I cannot disagree. The iconic orange mixed with an abstract symmetrical pattern; this kit could have been designed by a 2021 generative art NFT project instead of 1988. 

Ruud Gullitt's dreadlock header and Marco van Basten's impossible volley in the final make this kit even more legendary, as Holland secured its first (and only) major international prize.

2: Germany, 1988

The perennial "Angstgegner", Germany is the most successful country in the Euros history (3 x win, 2x runner up). Black adidas stripes and the DFB logo on white, Die Mannschat's kit exemplifies Germany's no-bullshit football mentality.

The 1988 kit is my personal favorite as the flag's colors are more prominently featured than in any other home kits. Lothar Matthäus' mullet makes it even more iconic.

3: France, 2000

Oversized sleeves à la 2000s couture. A blue which popped on CRT TVs. 
The Adidas tricolore stripes. The "Coq d'Or" with the golden star on top. 

This kit was the ultimate flex of les Bleus' sheer dominance at the 2000 Euros, with Zinedine Zidane at the fulcrum.

4: Denmark, 1992

Denmark qualified for the 1992 Euros ten days before the tournament started because Yugoslavia were ejected. Creeping out of the group stages with one draw, one loss, one win, they beat reigning champions Holland in a penalty shootout in the semifinal before completing the ultimate underdog story by beating Germany in the finals. 

Crucial to this all was legendary ManU goalie Peter Schmeichel and his epic stops. His colorful kit is my favorite goalie kit of all time

5: England, 1996

Alan Shearer was the top scorer with five goals at the 1996 Euros in England. Paul Gascoigne - aka "Gazza" - was every opponent's worst nightmare on the midfield and a living anecdote generator. 

The year that football was supposed to come home (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJqimlFcJsM), the Three Lions almost got there with Gazza tripping over a golden goal against Germany in the semi-finals at Wembly, only to lose in a thriller penalty shootout.

Nr 8 Gazza, with died hair, in the epic Umbro away kit, scaring the shit out of every opponent is peak late 1990s football.
