what’s something about privacy that's easy for you to understand but hard for others?

one of the things that took me a while to understand is WHY encrypted apps have such limited features it boils down to: 1. sophisticated product functionality (think Telegram, Discord) relies on accessing (plaintext) data that isn't currently on a user's device 2. most users only have one always-on device: their cell phone. so the only place to query would be another user's cell phone 3. Apple restricts background processing and requests on iOS due to concerns about battery life this can eventually be solved by FHE or TEEs, but neither is ready yet to handle a full product stack for a consumer app
