all philosophical theories of existence are coping mechanisms. coping with problems unsolvable by mere mortals is a fundamental tenet of philosophy.

not if Nietzsche has anything to say about it. God is dead, how shall we comfort ourselves?— it should be freeing. but if we’re thinking of the passive wallowing in despair i am probably with you. not sure how successful of a coping technique anyhow

for how Nietzsche criticizes pessimism i would not peg him a pessimist himself. facially grim, but he was proud not to have an outlook like Schopenhauer’s
