i noticed that ever since my groupchat push notifications started saying "30+ new messages in XYZ groupchat," i stopped clicking through to check the groupchat due to (i think) the mental barrier to reasonably catch up on everything.

this is definitely a thing. it also mentally reduces the messages to a mere number— if you’ve missed 29 already what’s a 30th
