imo friendtech is the worst omen for social and society.

my #1 critique of social is that it’s turned us into dopamine addicts, consumed by competition, constantly projecting an image for others moreso than for ourselves.

friendtech takes this and… financializes it? and some of us are excited by it?

whenever i have strong moralistic views against a new popular idea as i did with BitClout and now FriendTech, i get a knee jerk reaction of feeling somewhat defeated, that we are growing further and further apart from the things that matter.

if a horrible idea is nonetheless popular enough to stick, i suppose we’d chalk it up to the “democratization of the internet”. but we may well collectively reject it eventually, in which case our values incidentally get reaffirmed, which seems a good outcome

i am trying to remind myself now that it is not all bad for product like these to get hyped. the more hype there is, the bigger the platform to put the concept to a test.
