My take on FC’s unspoken etiquette after 20+ months here:

- Debate ideas, not people. Never engage in ad hominem attacks. Don’t let your ego take things personally. Everyone must leave feeling smarter, not angrier.

- Make a genuine effort to steelman opposing views before replying. Find your own blind spot, even if buried deep. Assume good and sincere intentions in others.

- Take this as an experimental lab to get to the truth together, rather than to prove anyone wrong. Treat it as a PvE game, not Squid Games.

I love this list. It unfortunately was not my experience when I first commented on a political post. I was pretty much attacked for my view which shocked me given I felt FC was the way you explained. It took me a while to go back in the channel after that.

I was shocked because I thought we could have a calm discussion on this platform. I learnt my lesson and now read between the lines to work out if it’s going to be a constructive interaction.

think politics is always very emotionally charged because of its nature. for better or worse i tend to stay away from those posts because its difficult to get a nuanced view in without being attacked

I feel it is too. I think I just had really bad luck and timing. I love it here because respect and growth is the leading mindset. I’ll just be a little careful if I want to chime in on a political conversation.

Politics is an FC dead zone. It will listen to ideas, but it’s historically been more about inclusive and encouraging themes with a strong gender respect influence. Things change, but I think that the original dynamic is still influential.
