when do we think 4TB will be absolutely necessary? seeing more EL clients implement pruning - between this and checkpoint sync on CL are we good on 2TB for a while longer?

It's really hard to tell especially with potential EIPs that might reduce disk space need or with things like restaking that might need more disk space if you want to get into that. Anyone on 2 TB should be good for at least 1 or 2 years at which point predicting even further is mostly pointless.

Accounting that you can likely order and receive a good 4TB SSD in 1 day and clone it in like 2 hours, the really worst case for being down is like 1-3 days. Most home stakers can assume that downtime and the related penalties without much anxiety.
