Interesting to know about Asturias, Spain! This is horreo (pronounced almost like a famous cookie brand). It’s widely spread on the north of Iberian peninsula. I was travelling to Asturias, north of Spain, and saw them in many places in the villages. They are usually built on wooden or stone pillars, some meters above the ground so that mice can’t reach it. Used for storing grain back by then, but nowadays it is used for storing things like bikes, surfing equipment, mattresses etc or isn’t it a cool thing for kids to play in? Remember we’ve been building some “bases” in the trees where we could run away from the world of adults? I was thinking that this is just a tradition to surprise tourists but no, they really still have them and use. Photo by me :).
