i noticed that ever since my groupchat push notifications started saying "30+ new messages in XYZ groupchat," i stopped clicking through to check the groupchat due to (i think) the mental barrier to reasonably catch up on everything.

Same! Interesting to me is the threshold is also the similar, I gladly read up to 30ish messages but more than that my mind just tricks myself into thinking i don’t have time and postpone the task of catching up. Works 3/4 times and then a group chat is “lost forever” - until I realize and feel bad and hopefully get myself to jump back on.
