i just hate starting to edit.

I write, leave, return, reread, see where I sounded like a moron or didn’t say what I meant to, rearrange the furniture in the piece, maybe add, maybe subtract, and repeat 3 more times, then one final time for grammar

Thanks for tagging me. I'm always up for a convo about text editing processes and philosophy.

I always step away from the writing for awhile (ideally overnight) between finishing a piece and editing it, because with fresh eyes it's much easier to identify the shortcomings of a piece.

I like your succinct summary. Interesting that you repeat your process 3 times, then proofread. That would be on the low side for me, at least when I'm editing my own pieces. When I edit for others (professionally), that's about right.

If I let myself edit more than 3 times I will never publish it 🫠

Progress report on clearing the backlog of drafts in my Paragraph dashboard:

Yesterday: 46 unsorted drafts
Today: down to 37 unsorted drafts

Writer problems: One of the drafts is an organized *list* of 20 in-progress essay titles, each with a well-crafted 50-word summary. 

The list is a creative work in and of itself, since it's a snapshot of topics I found fascinating enough to write about in depth at a certain time. 

I'm almost tempted to publish that "aspirational" list as-is.

But despite the best of intentions I know I'll never finish writing some of those essays, if only because there are only 24 hours in a day and I need to spend some of them sleeping... lol.

Onto the scrap heap it goes.

Haha. But "bankruptcy" would mean just scrapping them all and starting anew without even looking at them, right? I'm actually sorting through them and cherry-picking tidbits I can use in casts before they get scrapped.
