From personal experience, exactly true because "academic and educated" tends to mean "we are smarter than you (about everything)"

We live in a different bubble then. The smartest, most educated people I know tend to be very open to have their ideas challenged, but have thought about a lot of aspects beforehand. But maybe you are meeting the online fanatics, while I have a well curated circle of friends that distorts my perception.

I live in a city with an ivy league university Sometimes I just like to go to a coffee shop and listen to all the strongly held opinions that are plain unfounded and wrong, and said with such a distinct carelessness for understanding any deeper issue at play There are smart people for sure, but academics tend to overestimate their knowledge about problems they are not well-studied experts in
