Here's how it works today at a high level:  

Selection - find casts that you might want to see 
Ranking - determine the best casts  
Ordering - rearrange them to keep things fresh

Update: since my last post my home feed is much better except that it just never shows content from many channels I follow, even if I interact in the channel.
All channels has gotten much worse.(cont in reply)

A few days ago i found many great casts from multiple channels that were new to me and i was glad to find and there was a lot of variety overall.

Now it's just the same 5-8 channels over and over and many of them are spammy ones (higher, memes, enjoy) I do want memes there, just not every single post from memes.
