On 'self-cultivation'
Suffering is at the foundation of humanity. While I rarely talk about mine in great detail, I've experienced a lot of pain and trauma in life, mostly in the form of sexual abuse at the hands of my family, "friends", and complete strangers. The sheer amount of it affected every aspect of my life, even the way I sit and walk, and its impact still lingers and will always be present as a mournful reminder of the past.
'self-cultivation' is a reflection on the healing process. I'm scarred, but I'm no longer bleeding and now that I'm in a new place, in a different country, finally surrounded by those who wish me well and support me, I can see the book of my life opening on an entirely new chapter. But I also acknowledge I wouldn't be here if I hadn't gone through the most painful and lonely parts of my healing.
