I grew up playing at the seaside. One day, I was swept away by a tidal wave. I stayed conscious through the experience, and it only made me love more instead of fear the sea. I often put sea and water/underwater symbolism in my art to remind me of my origin story. Bc One doesnβt just survive a tidal wave to die in obscurity and loneliness, I remind myself. Each time Iβve cheated death is like a receipt for a greatness yet to be delivered, I tell myself, βYou escaped Daveyβs Locker - so you can moonwalk right through this new nemesis (whatever it is). Why else would you have survived the sea, my pretty?β Especially when sure things fall through, and I feel like Iβm suffering, remembering some of the experiences Iβve survived is the πͺ boomerang I become to return myself to myself: I remember the miraculous experiences that have contributed to who I am. Every grain of sand I see, and every bottled water reminds me to hard for my dreams; privately I have earned my own respect. π βοΈ
