Daft Punk's Random Access Memories was the cardinal sin that baptized retroism. everything they worked on prior to that was a fresh sound. even as late as Tron Legacy and even after RAM on kanye's yeezus for example. but then their long awaited album was a retroist homage to disco.

i like the album i'm guilty of liking a lot of this retroism stuff they just suck because our culture has become a remix of a remix of a nostalgia and we're not creating anything that sounds or looks new across cinema, music, fashion, architecture, interior design. anything even cybertruck is a delorian remix

yes sure and the colosseum is a remix of greek art. the renaissance was literally the remix of ancient styles. perhaps it has more to do with the natural passage of time, as well as the rejection of it. i suppose we’re all remixed nature in the end though

i think we're talking about different things and the issue is that we're calling both of them 'remix'. there's nothing distinguishing today's music from 20 years go but 70s music sounded really different from 90s music house had its routs in disco but house was a new thing. this is what you're talking about. today's house music sounds like 2004's house music. not much distinguishes them. it's not a house<>disco comparison at all. and we don't really have anything that's fully *new* that had its routes in house.

i think we have different ideas of modern music- imo rap has continued to evolve. i don’t really know much about house or disco, but RAM introduced me to the latter and became one of my favorite albums ever i listen to rap because i like hearing the stories, which can be unique when tied together in a cohesive way (mac miller). i also think the sound, style, and use of words have evolved a lot and continue to get better. the way i perceive what you said is the expectation of big shifts in genre but the music i enjoy i feel has continued to evolve in nuanced ways the whole time even in music here on fc, you’ll here the inspiration of mac in our local artists but you can also see how the story shifts their perception of the world and therefore the stories they tell within the music. what i meant to point out is nostalgia is subjective and therefor the remix is not a remix to many

1. i'm talking about culture. but if you want to drag technology into it ok. we're not doing that hot on any of those. people who are making the things you mention would be the first to tell you how bad we're doing. 2. on music and culture, i don't really disagree with what you're saying cause what the fuck you're saying has nothing to fucking do with what i'm talking about and frankly i'm not interested in whether you like rap or RAM cause that's not the subject of the discussion here.
