yeah, with Catholicism, it's a micro location thing. Local customs are EVERYTHING. 

I remember a friend went to Colombia (or somewhere in South America) and woke up on Ash Wednesday thinking everyone went crazy or had a crayon party. Everyone had weird looking markings on their forehead. We have Ash Wednesday here but don't do that.

But in the US, even Catholics don’t celebrate it like other countries do.
