It would be tragic but beautiful if we were trying to agree. If we were trying to find truth but failing because we come from different places. But we’re not, so it’s just tragic. We’re trying to be seen as right, so we don’t even notice we’ve given up on the truth.

If you deprive a tree of water, sunshine, nutrients, it lawfully withers and dies. It cannot help it. If you provide the tree plenty of water, sunshine, and nutrients, it lawfully grows and thrives. It cannot help it. As a part of nature, the same is true for you and your needs.

What is the threshold at which a social network becomes primarily dunking and good faith assumptions go out the window? @dwr.eth

why do all the superhero movies have active multiverses now? is it to maintain loyalty to the characters even if the actors leave? I don't think it's about a real preference for multiversal plots

Idk about favorite but focusmate was a surprising new way to work so I’d say that “opened up a new dimension”

People sure talk a lot about how they wish their lives were better/what’s wrong with their lives.

It would make their models ridden with surprise and so are heavily penalized. Personal growth potential scales with tolerance of surprise in one’s mental model.

However, I think there’s truth to it. One explanation could be that people whose mental training algorithms strongly optimize for not being surprised (in the cross-entropy-loss technical sense, not necessarily vocalizations about being surprised), won’t value changing up their environment.

“People protect their egos by not branching out into the unfamiliar, even if it would be better” strongly fails the common sense test. Obviously people do want to live better lives, no?

actually really fair criticism of the need to Arc things in rust for userspace threading. Rust still demonstrably faster though so what gives? https://bitbashing.io/async-rust.html

The max focused work (not rote stuff) I can do is 2 hours at a time, 3 times a day, for a total of 6 hours. After that it gets counterproductive. That level of self-knowledge feels so fucking good to have.

Von Neumann’s often referred to as the smartest person to have ever lived but I had no idea he was this scary smart. He crushed every field he touched. Nothing but net. https://www.privatdozent.co/p/the-unparalleled-genius-of-john-von-beb
