Are protocols engines of attention? — Do good ones ensure you turn your attention outward into new opportunities? Do bad ones turn it inwards and produce confusion?

nice take depends on their purpose. my view has been that, in crypto, protocols are incentive mechanisms to drive behavior towards an outcome if attention is the desired outcome, the protocol will incentivize one of the other, intentionally or not
