I'll be honest, I don't actually get what it means to think from "first principles". like is the whole idea to keep on asking "why" till you get to the core layer of the question? how do u do this in an efficient way? and how do u avoid tricking urself into believing ur thinking critically vs actually doing it

It's a reminder to keep your mental models refreshed imo. Getting to the atomized foundations is a good way to do that. Sometimes it's easy to forget fundaments and get lost in incrementals. Good questions, and I like this article: https://fs.blog/first-principles/
