Pretty sure Slack introduced them. Top-3 reasons I don't like Notion! I use forward slashes often when I write and writing anything in Notion is a pita.

I guess this is correct. They existed even in battle.net in the clan like 15 years ago... but then Notion might have invented the "reactive frontend" preview mechanism? Or maybe slack as @futureartist suggests
