Trump would never agree to anyone who could actually pass a legitimate vetting process.  He wants someone just as depraved as him so he can have stuff to hold over him.

I'm pretty sure the whole thought process was: "Ron Howard made a movie out of his book, so that must mean he'll appeal to centrists."

They didn't vett Trump or his immediate family. What makes you think they'd vett the VP?
