I'm having a really hard time vibing with neo-traditionalist architecture discourse. Like, I like beauty, but I just find the thing on the left much more beautiful than the thing on the right. (left image mine, right from @Western_Trad on twitter) Am I... missing something? https://i.imgur.com/Cqm1D2g.jpg

people who romanticize the right side probably never had to grow up there. for me it stems from disliking toxic religious traditionalism when growing up in Eastern Europe. modernity gives me more hope of a world created by people with less oppressive values, one where itβs okay to be yourself and to think different

i'm living in front of the right building (grew up here) on the other side of the danube and still love it. especially when it has lights turned on in the evening.. i understand your point and agree at some level, however for me those principles are mainly embedded in the mind, not the architecture

To some a Sistine Chapel is a symbol of Christian oppression, to a lot of folks itβs a fine display of mastery of arts and craft. You can appreciate the beauty of traditional architecture without attaching symbolism to it.
