talking content with @jackwyldes.eth I always get very excited about the content opportunities in the space and it always brings to mind the fact that crypto really has no sustainable ecosystem for content creation & consumption not a single platform at present where content creators are being paid by users, listeners, fans for their work curious if anyone is writing about content in crypto? farcaster is probably the closest platform we have for this, after X and TikTok - where “KOL” types have monetized creating content about crypto…through buying and selling tokens (not as via their content)

the problem with this is that users don’t want to pay for content and have become accustomed to free content so media and creators are forced to monetize in other ways hard to get people to pay for something when they’ve grown accustomed to it being free

Don’t think the split is awesome, yet twitch monetizes via subs and gifts. Thought kick was trying to vampire them with better splits though don’t think they’ve gotten very far. Of course that was one of the reasons for abstract chain - see phin totten on twitter. I think there should be a way for content to get three levels - sponsors paid in advance, subs, and one time gifts Still room for evolution for certain!

Sponsors are still the best method of support but minting is another revenue stream (@pods @hypersub). “Creator tokens” or “content tokens” generally are a bit challenging—if you sell, you’re dumping on your supporters BUT fees help so that you don’t have to sell (or at least so that you can hold off & be selective when selling). But if you’re creating content for a (currently) niche audience, finding the right value aligned sponsors is key. Those who can appreciate the quality of the audience are important.

Aren't there lots of crypto content platforms where creators are getting paid? Do you mean where they can earn a full time income from it, or like, what is missing from the current platforms for this?

Haven’t written anything but of course living and breathing it everyday. I’ve thought a lot about value creation vs value capture. Easy to create value as a content creator, so much harder to capitalize on it in a meaningful substantial way. I am bullish on new media, long form podcasts, creators having a direct relationship with their audience. I love the early crypto tools we have- hypersubs and mints and farcaster. But to prof’s point, we’re still playing a traditional game of selling attention and/or affiliation.

It’s something I think about a lot. I actually wrote an article on it, referring to the content as “post tokens” https://paragraph.com/@wanderloots.eth/post-tokens?referrer=wanderloots.eth

It’s a problem waiting for a solution for sure, and something I’m thinking about a lot these days. Good content (and especially zero copyright educational content, ahem) is undeniably a public good (beneficial to the public, non-rivalrous & non excludable), but in the absence of any funders left willing to give grants for it, it leaves creators in a pretty weird purgatorial place.
