for simplicity's sake, set degen to 1 usd.

how much [money] would you lock away for 90 days to be able to freely invest (or steal) 900000/ USD during that period?

1 million?
2 million?
10 million?
100 million?

fwiw I think the upper limit is around 10:1, ie I would be willing to lock 10m USD maximum for 90 days to freely invest 900k over a 90 day period (ceteris paribus).

Degen staking-for-allowance can’t quite be though of like staking for yield 

Network-yield is how I’ve been thinking about it. 

stake degen if you’re bullish DEGEN (you probably hold some already, no?)

Definitely, I’m trying to articulate a new way of thinking about degen & staking, slowly spread a meme that could one day be adopted as an ethos by a network of token holders & buyers

that sounds liked the preferred ideal, less what people will actually do.
