Of course they can, Trump is openly all about working for profit and payments. So is the american system. So he will clearly work for the highest bidder. 

I believe that his opponents might obey groups that use blackmail and other more complex and discreet methods of allegiance. Groups that are more dangerous to the general public now than Musk and  Thiel.
