I have long hair. I'd say start in small segments, when you find a knot, hold the hair above the brush so that when you try to brush the knot out she doesn't feel the yanking and pulling.

Also maybe her hair is too dry? I'd suggest an oil massage of her hair/scalp first before washing it. Then it will help with combing/brushing

I try this but not so successful. Will try harder lol
