“success is given, it’s not earned” i had a very similar conversation with a friend this morning, where i talked about being “tapped” by an important collector which then signals all the other collectors that an artist is worthy of their support. who you know + who you can get to know by smooth talking your way into cabals + luck = determines your success everyone works hard. not everyone succeeds the same. https://x.com/thepivot/status/1899592750137594033

We never know what is success and what is a failure, we only assume, using own own criteria, that what happened was a success or failure. Out of all these of these arbitrary assumptions the best “successes” are the things that make us grow. From this perspective true success lies in events that make us more disciplined, resilient, antifragile. And these qualities can only be earned, it’s impossible to give or get them for free. Looking deeper, we don’t control where we were born, what parents we got, what childhood etc. We don’t even control what we are going to think next. From this perspective ppl are more of less lucky. So I agree that “success” is given not earned, but it’s not given by other ppl, more by the life itself m, and we can never know if what we are currently going through is really a success or a failure😁.
