potentially dumb question but can someone explain the logic of “subletting” your apartment out for 2 weeks while you’re on vacation? like is rent really that high or are people really that cash strapped or what?

i think it's more of a principle of not being wasteful. generally for 2 weeks i do not sublet but if i'm gone for a month or more then it feels like a waste. no i will not be financially ruined by it but why wouldn't you take the option if your place is in a highly desired location? on top of that i need someone to water my 24523 plants
