In most gyms in our country, one thing is often taught wrong. That is — you should take as little rest as possible between two sets. The less rest, the better. But if your goal is muscle gain, then you should take at least 1.5 to 2 minutes of rest between each set. Why? Let me explain in points: 1. Our body’s energy currency is ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). When ATP runs out, it means our muscles have no energy left. 2. When we rest after a set, the body replenishes ATP — and this takes a minimum of 1.5 to 2 minutes. 3. So if we start another set before this time, we’ll struggle a lot because we don’t have enough ATP. But our muscles won’t be properly hit. We'll be forced to stop before the muscles are effectively worked due to lack of ATP. Which means all that effort goes to waste. So if muscle gain is your main focus, take at least 1.5 minutes of rest between sets.
