I’d love to understand why adding media (mainly pictures) to an ERC-20 is so complicated.

With media becoming increasingly tied to coins (Clanker, Zora) — and more and more coins being created — this complexity creates significant friction for builders.

This metadata isn’t part of the ERC-20 spec so there isn’t consensus on how to do it in a standardized way. Dexscreener profiting from it is ridiculous

Circles 2.0 uses 1155 tokens.
Once you realize the possibilities—that you can just send tokens to an address, and the address can then "do stuff," and you can even add a message to this, "and the address can do context-dependent stuff dependent on sender and message"—you never want to go back to ERC20!
