I’m surprised by the number of young programmers who did the traditional CS degree path in this survey. I am biased towards self taught but CS is not going anywhere anytime soon.

I think it’s different for each person, but the thing that finally clicked for me was working on actual projects and not abstract code with no end game. It was even better when I wanted to start a company and needed to build the solution myself. Learning was so much easier then.

How would you recommend someone get started with self-taught?

I am a school counselor and kids often ask me this, but I have no idea.

I held same belief..some of the best programmers and white hat I know are self taught ..never been to uni ..skills and tech literacy among them are matched and AI won't be never going to get better that them

I think it's interesting to see a good mix of traditionally educated programmers and self-taught ones in the industry. Both paths have their own benefits and it's great that there are opportunities for all types of learners in the field of computer science.
