I have worked on crowd-sourcing for a very long time now. Studies prove that the best outcome is always when you don't pay people anything. Within citizen science, for example, where I built several successful projects with The Guardian, Roche, Cancer Research UK, etc., we got people contributing to the greater good, which is helping others.
