surprised i'm only seeing the Flashes announcement now, but v cool to see decentralized social's value prop of "access to a built-in audience" and "reach a wider audience [beyond the app]" in TechCrunch. another value prop: "instead of being trapped by an algo, access custom feeds or curated feeds from artists"

Do you think Farcaster has effectively proven custom feed algorithms is a stated vs revealed preference?

Hard no. (but tell me I'm coping, if you disagree!) On FC, I have only seen 3 real attempts achieve enough adoption to test out: - Discove - slow, eng decisions to build on then-expensive AI, couldn't allow non-experts to do 1 to 3 basic use cases - flink had a novel emergent discovery feed, some ideas of which were kept in anoncast - Firefly has its own independent algo. It just kind of operates in the background Bluesky and Mastodon have had more real attempts at custom feed algos across a spectrum of approaches. Maybe those lessons are more illustrative. My 2 second takeaway: paradox of choice
