Reposting from /healthcare, but would love this channel’s thoughts! Is the reason we see less women engaging in strength training due to stigma of “muscles” on women, lack of childhood encouragement, or something else? Clearly women benefit greatly, but statistically, women are less likely to train strength

My opinion, which is in line with previous comments, is that there’s a perception that strength training is to bulk up. In some cases, people will also consider it to prevent/fix injuries from other activities (like running, or spending all day looking at a computer/phone lol).

However, I’ve been recently doing strength training and love it! Also, on Wiser than Me (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) some guests have said that you need to prepare for old age by building strength while you’re young. That really stuck with me, and I wouldn’t have thought about it that way on my own.
