Here is something that’s not talked about enough: more than 19.5k children have been abducted by russians from occupied cities, moved to russia, and placed for adoption (while their parents are still alive and searching for them). There are many task forces and nonprofits both in Ukraine and foreign countries working to find and return these children (using open-source information, including satellite imagery, social media posts, russian publications, and adoption ads). So far, only 1240 children have been returned to their parents ❤️‍🩹 This shows why surrendering to occupation never equals peace; the war crimes continue under occupation, and the kidnapping of children is one of them. I’ve seen some cruel takes on this, with people saying, ‘Well, at least those children are alive and not bombed to pieces.’ All I can say is, try saying that to their parents. https://inews.co.uk/news/world/musk-cuts-team-finding-ukraine-stolen-children-russia-3581184

My heart is breaking for their parents, and it’s easy to lose hope because, realistically, once your child is taken to russia, their identifying documents are destroyed, and they are issued new russian documents with new identities- it’s very hard to track them down (unless there happen to be russian people who anonymously report the child’s whereabouts) What’s even worse, there have been reports of families specifically looking to adopt Ukrainian children from occupied territories to torture them (knowing that if they adopt one of these children, it’s mostly guaranteed that child protective services will turn a blind eye). I saw a woman posting on her socials about how she is beating up the kid she “adopted” from Ukraine to “re-educate” him. He was all bruised up, and she wasn’t ashamed to share those on social media or worried for any consequences.
