Style consistency methinks, I have seen a few rather successful artists talk about how they become pigeonholed which reduces their ability to experiment and play, which is ultimately why they started. I heard that loud and so I don't want to fall into the same trap

This sounds more like a 'rule' about the image the artist wants to build for himself, rather than a rule about art itself. But we agree: avoid becoming pigeonholed!
