Artists confessions time: What’s an art rule you always break or ignore, and why? (Be honest!)

I feel the social app X became a place crypto artists ‘have to be’; like it was the centre of everything and artists should be there in order to be relevant. I think that expectation is unhealthy especially as the ethos of crypto is decentralisation and also the ethos of many artists is to ‘not conform to rules’…. I’m very happy to break that X rule anyway and not be there anymore. It felt like a very unhealthy place for me

All these "perfect photography" rules, like the rule of thirds, leading lines, the golden ratio, and so on... It always feels like breaking them as much as possible, thinking, "rules are made to be broken" 😅 Otherwise, it all gets a bit boring

‘Don’t use AI!’ In my opinion AI is a tool not different from Photoshop or any other PC software

Composition. I force composition by making it as much "horror vacui" as I can but without loosing total balance. ( Just one of a large list)

Rules are great for practice, but when it comes to creating art, sticking to them too much might hold you back and stop you from making any progress at all, should let the artwork take shape on its own.

"Don't shoot people from behind." ~ a constant noise of people trying to tell me what to do and how I see the world. It took a few years for me to understand why I do this, but here goes. After moving to Poland I faced constant challenges and social barriers which created feelings of lonliness and isolation that deeply impacted me. Photography helped me sort out a lot of what I was feeling and gave me a way to "see" my journey through these challenges. Unconsciously, I began to project my feelings onto the person walking ahead of me creating a visual reference of my solitude.

I set practice and production schedules that I never meet and then I feel bad about it.

I break a lot of rules! Sticking with color pallets, composition balance, lots of classic animation rules.. you name it 😅 I just try to create what I feel and don’t think about what will sell or be ‘right’. Took me a long time to get to this place and there’s lots of freedom there

Style consistency methinks, I have seen a few rather successful artists talk about how they become pigeonholed which reduces their ability to experiment and play, which is ultimately why they started. I heard that loud and so I don't want to fall into the same trap
