We thought hard about being a @moxie.eth Hero this week and how we'll celebrate that. Introducing Pkok Finterviews - Cast-form farcaster interviews, 20 questions to some of our favorite people. We aim to tell stories of phenomenal individuals shaping the art ecosystem on web3. It's also a great way for us and other heroes to get to know and engage with them. Oh! each interview starts with /degen love. But wait, there's more! These Finterviews are not restricted to only those we tag. the word masterpiece defines an artifact that is the best of a series that an artist has worked on. In this regard I believe that there can be no masterpiece without a career. I do not believe that the emotions that arise from a work can define a masterpiece, but rather it is due to a practical act of the artist's work itself. For a nature photographer it can be the photograph of something very rare, which does not imply the beauty of the work itself but rather the achievement of a goal. The same can be said for any type or genre of artist who recognizes in a specific work the uniqueness that distinguishes it and that is almost unrepeatable.

Gm pkok. This is a good question, and honestly I don’t really know how to describe myself to someone who’s approaching my work for the first time. I’m a Visual Artist, the finished product is the image, and I don’t set limits to what I use to reach my idea. What o surely know is that my practice bring me often to a lot of failures and some good results. 😅

Thank you for the tip 😅 I now have two dates of artistic birth, one is the real one that dates back to the 90s when photography kidnapped me and never left me, and one dates back to 2021 when, discovering the world of crypto art and NFTs, I began to see the world differently. Especially with the discovery of AI, I realize that my stories can have such a powerful assistant that it can allow me to incredibile trips. It started naively, like all my art experiences, open eyes, open mind, open heart.

The 90’s were really different, I was influenced by some great Italian and American photographers. Just to name someone: Luigi Ghirri, Franco Fontana, Stephen Shore, William Egglestone. In 2021 was completely different of course, probably the artist who influenced me most was Anna Condo @a1111ac011d0 her eclectic way to do art was unique to me. Who helped me in the understanding of the NFT world was @bthemouth @hugofaz and all the @obscura team. All special people and artists.

Oh yes! Unfortunately. And I love FC. I embraced completely the concept, I would say that I spend 90% of my time over here. There’s still a lack of artistic scene but I’m confident that will grow faster in the near future.

Probably my “Masterpiece” was a project called “itsumoarigatou”. Is a photography project from 2018 that talk essentially about me and my family and the struggle of living a life between two countries and two different cultures. This work was selected for several Photo Festivals in Italy and Japan. I’m really proud of this work mostly because isn’t really easy to put yourself and your loved ones under the camera lens. Congratulations! It would be very interesting to see the entire project, though. The 10 minted photos ignited our curiosity, as they're very different from your current mints. Since we arrived at this point, how has your art evolved over the years, and what has stayed consistent?

I believe that over the years my evolutionary and artistic process has gone in the opposite direction of "putting" but more in "taking away". My past photography was made of frills while now I would say it is more oriented towards the essential. I make a big distinction between myself as a photographer and myself as a visual artist who uses tools to express himself, as I said before "I was born twice". Photography remains a desert island on which I retreat when I'm sad, while I see the other tools as an outlet towards the outside that I can draw from as if I were a child. Consistency in art-work has never been a prerogative of mine, I get bored easily, even of myself. Today I am 52 years old and if I were the same as thirty years ago I would have to worry 😅 “Discontinuity is a constant in my artistic life”.

This is a beautiful question. Thank you for asking. I would like people to travel with their imagination looking at my images. I understand that sometimes it can seem difficult in front of something very “simple”, but behind every image I try to tell a story, and that story can be mine or the story of anyone who recognizes themselves in it. When I was a child I played games with imaginary characters who did imaginary things. Well, I would like people to play the same game with my images.

Gm guys, just woke up 😅 What beauty means to me? It’s difficult to discern the art from the life I’m living. Let’s put it this way, everything I love, I love regardless of its aspect, whether it’s the physical aspect of a person or the aesthetic aspect of a work of art. Speaking of my work, I think it’s quite common for an artist to love a photo or a painting for reasons that completely escape the viewing public. We love those things for what they are, so I would say that for me beauty means nothing. It’s not a determining factor in my life. On the other hand, I’m not immune to it and I get moved by a Caravaggio paint or Gregory Crewdson photo as if I were a teenager in front of a beautiful woman. Fortunately our eyes are connected to our brain, and our brains are a complete mystery. So at the end of the game, beauty is a mystery.

Here we are 😉 Another great question. I think the hardest failure to accept was the moment I decided not to use AI for at least a year because I wanted to give my photos a chance. It was a failure on all fronts and I should have known it from the beginning but you know, we are stubborn and confident 😅 I don't think I learned anything because I haven't given up yet, but I still have that bitter taste in my mouth of those who believed they could do it. Btw it’s not the end yet, so probably one day this failure will become a success, who knows.

It's difficult for us to understand that you consider giving your photos a chance was a failure after seeing your most recent mints. However, it is your process, and you are the only one who knows the destination you want to reach. What about blocks? How do you handle creative blocks, and what helps you find new inspiration?

Yeah probably you’re right, it’s difficult to understand, but it’s surely just a question of perspective and expectations. Btw I feel blessed by all the great results that I reached in the past two/three years and I don’t regret a single step I took. About blocks, I usually take my time to reflect about it. As I told you in the first question I consider myself a visual artist and when photography leaves me without ideas I run into something new. Exploring new mediums is a huge help for new inspiration, I think I tried everything I could: coding, digital art, AI, collage, post-photography and recently I’m seriously considering starting hand drawing. I’m not pretending to become a specialist in any of this mediums, it’s just a question of keeping my mind busy and often something good pop up, until the next block.
