Summer of Protocols

Just rewatched my 2023 bogota devcon talk on hypercomplexity and it’s interesting how a lot of it explicitly foreshadows the current d/acc conversation, though I took care to underline that my hypercomplexity model is not a flavor of accelerationism. It also prefigures a lot of the ideas landscape SoP has since mapped out much better. This is like the blurry photos of Pluto from before the new horizons mission supplied better ones.

I hope I get a chance to do an updated version of this talk soon. I have a lot more to say, and several pieces of this have been significantly revised. But I’m surprised how well the big ideas still track and the main contours remain unchanged. The biggest missing piece is “protocol theory” which we now have, at least in rudimentary form.
