Why are people so excited about LangChain?

I can give you many reasons why I am not excited at its current state. willing to change bias, but I agree with a lot of comments made in this recent HN thread:

I bet it's a mess.  I wonder what the state of play will be after Chris Lattner's Mojo's vision has time to play out - which aims to unify a bunch of the rube goldberg machines

Oh, that doesn't bode well!

The decentralised (foundations models at the edges), 
OSS-iness feels like a critically important thing to have happen.

As a dev I'm willing to wait and put my weight behind that when some center of gravity emerges.

Jumping straight back into hub-spoke, cmd/ctrl APIs feels immature.

Mojo/modular gives me more of an enterprise-targeted vibe.
