I recently joined the board of a newly formed nonprofit, and added it to my LinkedIn profile.  

When you add a new position to LinkedIn they ask if you want to alert your connections. I very intentionally opted out.

And somehow I’m still getting “congrats on your new role” messages arrrghhh😡
