"All masks can swap places and enter a carnivalesque exchange of masks, which Mikhail Bakhtin spoke of as part of his theory of the “carnivalization” of culture and which he considered to be the only authentic form of mass culture." this is relevant to the essay i shared last night (⌒_⌒;)

In relation to this article, how would you position yourself as an artist? A serious artist or a popular artist? The niche of internet aesthetics is still difficult to frame imo, as it's hard for institutions or curators (even young ones) to grasp and hard for a (very) wide audience to scale to pop impact

i don't even really think of myself as an artist (⌒_⌒;) i just make things about ideas i want to talk about and enjoy. i don't think trying to plan out how to make it serious or entertaining is something that should occupy a big part of the process. whether the aesthetic or conceptual packaging leans more serious or entertaining is just a result of unconscious actions informed by all the influences i've absorbed over my lifetime ultimately, the ppl who see the thing will decide whether it's serious or entertaining or both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and different ppl will consider it different things and it's not really for me to dictate how it is received once it's out in the world
