So apparently Japan changed their money over the summer and I almost lost it at the ATM and had to stand there googling it like an idiot to make sure I wasnβt crazy. Top is new. Iβm loving the wave on the back. Canβt wait to get more change and see what the other notes look like in person. Japan used to be very cash heavy, covid helped accelerate touch-less credit cards but most small businesses and temples are still cash. Itβs strange because IC cards (electronic transit cards) are useable at most vending machines so Iβm always caught off guard when I canβt pay with it and thrilled when I can unexpectedly. Now that I can reload my card with Apple Pay I rarely go to the ATM.

Whatβs crazy is Iβve seen it IRL twice but neither time was in Japan. Itβs always on loan.

Out money is boring and not ADA accessible at all! Other countries have different sizes! We suck. And have so little color. So boring.

Let us not overlook the lack of durability. I was in both canada and mexico last year and their paper is water resistant. oh and BTW good luck ripping it
