Lake Toya is famous for their Onsen (hot springs) and their nightly fireworks festival! The best place to watch them is from the fireworks cruise boat that follows the boats shooting the fireworks. The second best place is from an open air hot spring on the rooftop of one of the hotels on the lake. I did both of course, but no photos from the Onsen. They were obviously very full!

I think some of this is actually practice for an international fireworks competition and many times I believe the team from here has done very well.

when it comes to 花火 fireworks, Japanese come second to none..

They were stunning! It’s also really fun to watch the little boats. There are 2. One is focused on the water level
Fireworks and the other is focused on the sky fireworks. One has a green light and one has a red light.  In the darkness you can see the boat with the red light stop and then speed away very quickly and you know a water level firework is about to go off where they were. Makes it nice to set up photos!
