I can’t wait to go back to Japan. Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the /momiji (red leaves) and the ginkgo but I always get laughed at a little when I say that. Apparently someone mistranscribed the correct Japanese spelling and we all say it wrong. It should be gingko (gin-kyo).

Oh,is "gingko" english word? I think the correct Japanese term is pronounced "ichō" for the tree, and "ginnan" for the seeds.

What’s so sad is that someone’s mistranslation became the scientific name for the tree! Ginkgo biloba The genus name is regarded as a misspelling of the Japanese pronunciation “gin kyō” for the kanji 銀杏. People always giggle when I say it.

Ah, I cracked the meaning.😅 It certainly might make you smile a little when you hear that from a foreigner.🥰
